Journeyman Distillery reimagines the historic American Factory as a layered hospitality destination, where food, beverage, and gathering spaces transform a former industrial workplace into a center of community life in Valparaiso, Indiana. Spanning 140,000 SF, the project builds upon the legacy of American manufacturing and craftsmanship, preserving the character of the building while introducing a new framework for flexible, experience-driven use.
140,000 SF historic factory reimagined
The design is grounded in authenticity. Original materials and surfaces are retained wherever possible, allowing the patina of the factory to remain visible and tactile. Interventions are deliberate and restrained. New insertions introduce light and clarity while maintaining continuity with the existing structure, reinforcing the dialogue between past and present.
Destination for dining, events, and distilling
Food and beverage spaces anchor the experience. The restaurant, whiskey garden, and event venues are shaped by the building’s industrial past, where lighting installations evoke the sparks of metalworking and repurposed fixtures become focal elements.
A commitment to regional craftsmanship is embedded throughout, from locally fabricated furnishings to Amish-built communal tables, grounding the project in a distinctly Midwestern tradition of making.
Flexible environments from intimate to large-scale
