Future-Proofing Indiana's Priceless Documents

The Indiana Archives and Records Administration (IARA) aimed to safeguard Indiana’s archival collections and enhance employee experience. They enlisted our expertise to choose a location and design a new headquarters adjacent to the Indiana Government Center and downtown Indianapolis Canal Walk. Despite the narrow site, the building maximizes space and improves experiences for both visitors and staff.

The Challenge

Our team navigated the intricacies of specialized archival storage requirements, ensuring precise control over humidity, temperature, and light. Simultaneously, we aimed to foster a welcoming public space and a productive office environment. The new building, adorned in Indiana limestone, harmonizes with its civic surroundings while establishing a distinctive identity for IARA. A glass jewel-box corner, hovering above the Canal Walk, beckons the public inside. This architectural marvel not only sets new standards for similar projects but also highlights the significance of conserving invaluable documents and artifacts.
