The Bottleworks District stands out for reconnecting an Art Deco masterpiece with its city and revitalizing a 12-acre Coca-Cola bottling plant.

RATIO Design announced today that the Bottleworks District has been selected a winner of the 2024 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Global Awards for Excellence.

This award marks an exciting and impactful milestone for the project and for RATIO, earning its first ULI Global Award. Bottleworks District is one of only seven projects around the world to be selected out of 109 submissions from the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific Regions.

The Bottleworks District is a 12-acre mixed-use development that reimagines a historic Coca-Cola bottling plant in Indianapolis into a vibrant culinary, arts, and entertainment hub. The project includes a food hall, boutique hotel, retail, and office space, with future phases set to include additional retail, office, and residential components.

It was originally constructed in 1930-1931 by the Yuncker brothers and designed and built by renowned architect firm Rubush & Hunter. By 1950, it had grown into the world’s largest bottling plant, 240 Coca-Cola bottles per minute or over 2.2 million bottles weekly.

However, for the last 50 years the plant had been partitioned off from the public. Hendricks Commercial Properties and RATIO had a vision to reconnect this iconic site with the surrounding neighborhoods and reimagine it as a driver of the city’s future. Learn more about the project here.
