The school is sited within the heart of the campus to allow for site amenities as well as keeping the presence of the building at more of a pedestrian scale in relation to its residential neighbors. Located in the historic Village of Pinehurst, the new facility will be designed to meet the historic design guidelines and character of this unique setting. The Classroom Wing will take on a more symmetrical order, and the façade will be composed in a series of brick clad nodes with light-filled common spaces located in between.
Creating a larger and more vibrant learning environment, the new Pinehurst Elementary will replace the aging and existing school on the same site in North Carolina. The proposed design is a building consolidated into one footprint and comprising of a two-story Classroom Wing and a Gym Wing. Solving the current space challenges, the multi-story building will increase capacity from under 600 students to 800 and will address the increased parking requirements for parent drop-off and pick-up.
